How to Prepare the Matcha Tea Drink

To make the usual cup of green tea, put ½ a teaspoon of the matcha in your cup and add 2 tsp full of hot water.  Using a bamboo whisk like the picture on the right will make it easy to dissolve the powder. A small spoon to whisk and dissolve the powder will work also. Or use an electric frother to push down on the dry powder a few times to break it up.  Add a very small amount of hot water to start to make a thick paste, then add more to whisk.  Alternatively, you can shake the matcha in a sealed container – this mixes it very well with minimal clumps.

The standard recipe for traditional matcha is 1g or 1/2 teaspoon of matcha, with 4oz (1/2 cup) of water. You can work your way up to stronger matcha if you’d like, but I recommend starting there.   A standard serving is just 1 gram or 1/2 teaspoon– so with one serving a day, it would last a full 30 days if you bought the 1 oz. size of the container.   If you’re using a full teaspoon a day either all at once or split between two servings, the 1 oz tin would last about 15 days.  100% USDA Organic Matcha Green Tea Powder, All Natural, gluten-free, and vegan.  Nothing was added to the powder.   Authentic Japanese Origin – sourced directly from organic farms in Japan.

The Right Tools To Prep Matcha Tea Drink

The right tools to prep a matcha tea beverage will make your life easy. The traditional bamboo whisk is nice, but my personal favorite is the new electric frother whisk. You can check out the starter toolset here.

If you don’t have tools, a really good way to mix matcha is to use a small cup put ½ tsp of matcha add a little hot water, and whisk it using a fork or small teaspoon to whisk.  Once the matcha is dissolved, add honey for a little bit of sweetness, pour into a cup with hot water, and stir.  Or you have it cold by pouring in a glass shaker with ice.  Then mix with either your favorite milk, or coconut milk, and shake.  It is delicious that way. My preference is coconut over milk as coconut is healthier to use but gives the cold matcha green tea a superb taste.  I love it!  Honey works great if you wish to add a touch of sweetener or stevia.

Matcha Is Contaminants Free

The tea is tested for traces of lead and other contaminants by the growers and independent laboratories in the U.S.   There was no lead detected in the most recently reported levels below the detection limit of 1ppm (part per million).  Additionally, the seller tested for the full spectrum of common heavy metals like Arsenic, Cadmium, and Mercury as well as Fluoride, and similarly, these were not detected below the detection limit of 1ppm.  Also, laboratories performed radiation tests and use a gross Alpha/Beta/Gamma test that comprehensively detects radiation contamination.  All tea crops have passed these tests with no traces of contamination.

How To Tell If You Have A Quality Matcha?

Rub a bit of Matcha between your fingers, it should have a fine and smooth feel to it. Its consistency should be similar to that of baby powder or blush.  A sure way to test if your matcha is of high standards is to put a little bit of it onto a piece of white paper, then smear it.  Since Matcha is a tea that comes in the form of a powder, rather than leaves in a teabag, the benefits are more prominent.  You get both the quality flavor and nutritional benefits of matcha.

  1. Let me start off by saying that I am a huge fan of all things tea and coffee alike. I first discovered matcha green tea a few years ago and it quickly became one of my absolute favorites.

    I drink mine differently than most. I tend to mix these 4 things in with my tea: stevia, ginger, lemon, and raw honey. 

    I haven’t tried the particular brand you mentioned in your article and therefor feel I’m missing out. 😀

      Thank you for your comments!  So glad to hear you love matcha green tea.  I tried the Jade Leaf Ceremonial Matcha tea a year ago and I loved it. I drink only green tea in the morning and matcha is my favorite.  Like you, I use raw honey all the time. I use lemon and cinnamon stick with the green tea bag dry leaves. Have never tried lemon with the matcha tea!  But you should try matcha green tea with coconut and honey on ice. It is delicious!  Please try the ceremonial grade by  Jade Leaf!  You will be happy you did!   You only need to use very little as it is the actual leaf grown in the shade, grounded in powder.    Again thank you and be well!


  2. Being honest here, I’m not much of a matcha person, or tea, for that matter. But reading your article really made me want to finally try this out. With all its health benefits and (debatable) taste, I’d  really would like to take a swig of it and go from there. Hope I like it!

    • Thank you for your comments.  Yes the matcha green tea has a lot of health benefits.  I drink green tea daily as I am not a coffee drinker. I have heard famous Korean and Japanese doctors who give talks on health issues  recommend the audience to drink green tea daily because of the flavonoid properties even in the regular green tea bags.  But matcha green tea has a flurry of anti-oxidants because you will actually consume the grounded powder of the green leaves.  You will notice the benefit after drinking the matcha tea. I hope you will give a try drinking the ceremonial matcha green tea as it is the best and high end.

  3. Hello there thanks for sharing such an helpful review about this tea. I must say I am not a great fan of matcha tea but judging from your review it is something everyone should try out. It is interesting to know that it has a lot of health benefit including protection from cardiovascular diseases. I think I might just have a change of mind after all

      Thank you for your comments on the ceremonial grade matcha green tea.  I think you should try it because it is really good.  I like it best when it’s mixed with coconut milk, raw honey and ice.  The matcha tea is actually the grounded powder of the green tea leaves that comes with health benefits when consumed.  That is why it is healthier versus the green tea bags of dried leaves that you have to steep before drinking.
